PostForum: Beliefs and Fundamentals   Posted: 20-04-2005 10:10 pm   Subject: ALLAHS ATTRIBUTES-SOME CLARIFICATION
When this quote is given:The commentator ibn Abi Al Izz says, He says, "As for the word "Jihah" (direction), it may imply something existent or non-existence. it is well known that there is nothing in existence except the creator and the created. hence, if by direction one means an existent other than Allah, it would be something created. As such it could not encompass Allah, for no created being can encompass Him. Exalted is He above that. If by the word direction one means something non-existent, that is, beyond the bounds of this world, then there is nothing there except Allah. Taking direction in this sense, if we say that Allah is in a certain direction or space, it is correct, for it means that He is above the world, beyond limits of creation and beyond everything." The Ashari's Respond:What in the world is a non-existent direction? This does not logically make sense. Is this because logically Allah has to fit there definiton of what Allah should be like? Or is it a lack of understandig of what direction means?

The articles written on the following link will help you understand this subject a little better Inshallah.http://www.islaam.net/main/display.php?category=30 As for some Asharis affirming the attributes of Allah the same way Ahlus sunnah does is probably because they follow Imam Asharis last book Ibaanah. In this book he affirms the Creed of Ahlus Sunnah.http://www.salafipublications.com/sps/sp.cfm?subsecID=AQD06&articleID=AQD060002&articlePages=1

Earlier in the book it talks about how the one who likens Allah to his creation is a kafir. This so-called quote is taken out of context. The commentator is refering to affirming the hand of Allah without tawil or likening to the creation.

Imaam Abu Haneefah said:

((It is not befitting for anyone to call upon Him, except by Him, and with the supplication that He has permitted and commanded, that which is instructed in His statement:

{And Allaah has Beautiful Names, so call upon Him by them, and leave the company of those who deviate concerning His Names. They will be recompensed for what they used to do})), [Soorah al-A'raaf, Aayah 180], [ad-Durrul-Mukhtaar ma'a Haashiyah Raddul-Mukhtaar (6/396-397)]

Abu Haneefah said:

((It is detested for the supplicator to say: "I ask You by the right of so and so", or, "By the right of Your Prophets and Messengers, and by the right of the Sacred House and the Sacred Sanctuary")), [Sharhul-'Aqeedatut-Tahaawiyyah (p. 234) and Ithaafus-Saadaatul-Mustaqeem (2/285) and Sharhul-Fiqhil-Akbar (p. 198) of al-Qaaree]

And Abu Haneefah said:

((It is not befitting for anyone to call upon Allaah, except by Him, and it is even more detestable for him to say: "By the junctures of Honour from your Throne", or "By the Right of Your Creation")), [al-Fiqhul-Absat (p. 56)]

Yeah I have even heard some muftis say that the one who does not follow a madhab is not from Ahlus sunnah wal jammah.

The above really clarifies things.
