The Society for Internet Research recently completed a study of the
readership distribution of the al-Hesbah forum. The following is a
sanitized extract of that report.

Summary: al-Hesbah forum is the premier Salafyist/Jihadist type forum
currently in existance. The site claims thousands of members and on
those rare occasions when the administrators allow people to sign up
prospective members are subject to a careful screening process. When
major media stories refer to a mysterious "password-protected forum
known to be used by Islamic extremists" they are most often referring
to al-Hesbah.

Looking at the readership by region, the Gulf Arab states (28.69%) and
Europe (21.72%) combine to represent fully 50% of the al-Hesbah
readership. The Levant places third in our survey at 11.48% and the
strong showing of the Maghreb in our previous reports continues,
representing 10.25% of the readership (the vast majority of whom are in
Morocco. In Europe the United Kindom is tied for "First Place" with
Germany, followed closely by France and Sweden.
